These are some pictures and project ideas that we'd like to share with you using washi tapes. You can make use of washi tape either casually or creatively. No need to start from scratch for big projects or wait for a perfect moment to create. Just look around and see if you have any old or existing items that you want to give them new look. Turn ordinary into extraordinary!
Washi Tape Keys
Decorate house keys using washi tapes to make them uniquely yours! The key chain is pretty solid. So instead of removing it, just use some pretty tapes to cover it. We used our favorite adhesive tapes as shown below.
Washi Tape Hair Band
Sometimes it might be a bit tough to use masking tape which has collage pattern or patchwork design. What about using it to dress up an old hair band? If you have 2 rolls of tapes with coordinating colors, then use them. Otherwise, use 1 roll of this mt masking tape (as shown below) would do just fine. Just wrap up the hair band and you will have 2 different colors/patterns on it. How simple is that! I came across someone using Mod Podge to seal it and make it stay better. I'd rather leave it as it is. Just in case I want to change the colors again sometime later. Read: My first experiment using mod podge and washi tape.
DIY Phone Case Cover
Below is a plastic/clear mobile phone case which my cousin bought from Daiso Malaysia. The phone casing is for iPhone 4 and 4S. It's called shell jacket. You can use your favourite washi tape(s) to adorn the plain case. Here she used mt Deco Arch Pink+Green to cover the top portion. The picture on the masking tape is half circle. So, just find the other half to make it a circle. Then she used another little washi tape (colourful small dots) to beautify both side portions.
Dress Up Normal Stationery
It doesn't matter if you are in school, in college, at home or at work, stationery has somewhat become pretty important. We use it all the time... even just a pencil, pen, ruler, stapler etc. But, don't you think they all look quite similar? Well, you can differentiate them by colors or attaching labels. Have you experienced this in your workplace... why is your punch always missing especially when you need to use it? You cannot locate it because they all look the same! How? Use washi tape to make normal stationery into uniquely yours! You can spot it right away even if it's mysteriously gone from your desk. Below is eye-catching mosaic masking tape and stripes tape.
I wanted to use sakura masking tape (the blue circle and arrow) to cover the stapler. However, it's a bit see-through. Hence, I added the pink stripes tape as another layer on top.
Washi Tape Remote Control
As usual, dad wanted me to jot down the date for changing the battery for the air-conditioning remote control. I didn't feel like writing nor stamping... all of sudden, I realized this measurement tape! So, I just cut the numbers out and stick the date on it. Bingo, perfect yet creative date, isn't it? You can in fact make it smaller size.
Washi Tape Letters
These little fun tapes are flexible. You can just cut or tear easily any size you desire to create letters like shown below. For instance, if you have a shop, you can tape "Welcome" on the front door. Here we used the cool colors set for the words. The colors might look dark on the screen but they are pretty in real. The main thing is that if you layer light colors, such as the red floral tape, on top of the dark colored words like "L", "V" etc, this brings out the colors even better. Plus, cut certain images individually from the masking tape and adorn around the text. We taped this on white paper. Can you tell if the butterfly on the right is washi tape or just sticker?
Pretty Up Medicated Oil Bottle
Okay... this is the little medicated oil bottle that I like to use if not feeling that well. Never thought of "beautifying" it. However, the original paper in the middle fell off recently and refused to stay. Didn't feel like glueing it back either. Maybe it knew that we have quite a number of washi tapes. So, why not pick up the dark green dots mt masking tape and put it on? The darker colors might not look pretty at first glance. Try them out on glass bottles.
DIY Name Card Holder
I found this business card holder tutorial and decided to make one. You can click here for more details (the link will open in a new window). I then used the red polka dot masking tape and maroon color from the 10P set to decorate the card holder. Flowers and little white pearls were added to complete the look. Well, there are many other ways to decorate it depending on your chosen theme and colors. You can use other patterned paper and embellishments instead of washi tapes.
Baby Scrapbook Page
This is a 8x8 scrapbooking project for baby. It's actually a 12 pages album. This is quite a "busy" page. Lots of colorful flags (or buntings), drums and music, bright colors text and washi tapes! Just want to create a very happy and wonderful feelings to welcome a healthy baby boy! The best part was normal glue not needed that much... just a wee bit on the grass and photo. Apart from washi masking tapes and the text stickers, we used many dimensional foam adhesive or 3D foam. Click here to read more details about creating a baby scrapbook page.
Washi Tape Name Cards - Part 1
The left side of the name card is blank. We didn't have that much info when first designing the business cards. So, I thought why not just left it blank and I could just washi tape it. And here's the result! Not only will it tell someone right away what washi masking tape is, it also allows those who know it to feel and touch. Picture on the left, I used mt cool colors on the name cards. The thin lines on the green and brown tapes are mt slim 3mm masking tapes. Yes, you can layer them to create a special design. Picture on the right, I used gold, silver, dot black and stripe black mt masking tapes.
Washi Tape Name Cards - Part 2
If you have different colors and designs for washi tapes, you can adorn your business cards for different purposes. For example, picture on the left, suitable for guys while picture on the right, suitable for ladies.
Washi Tape Name Cards - Part 3
Here are some other business cards samples which you can use washi tapes to decorate according to your profession. For instance, floral washi tape can be used for florist, number washi tape can be used for accountant or travel masking tape can be used for tour agent.
Chinese New Year Greeting Cards
Below are 2 samples greeting cards which you can use as they are or modify to suit your style. We would also like to thank our friend who made these samples for us. We never thought we could actually use the mt ex lace circle washi tape (left picture) and the mt sakura washi tape like these. Isn't it amazing to have someone else to do the design and learn something new and different? We hope you are inspired too to create your own style because the possibilities of creations are endless!
